Line Bet - A wager that one of six numbers (two rows of three numbers separated by a line on the layout) will win.

Roulette Betting

There are a lot of bets that can

be made in the game of roulette, but despite this, roulette betting is not a complicated process. Add to this the fact that you have a good amount of time to choose your bets, and you have a game with a lot of options and a relaxed setting. The various roulette bets all fall into two categories: inside bets and outside bets. You must play the table minimum in order to place any one outside bet. However, for your inside bets, the total of all of your bets must meet or exceed the table minimum. Now that you know this important bit of information, let’s take a look at the different bets so you’ll be able to take advantage of what the roulette wheel has to offer you and get involved in some serious roulette betting action.

Roulette Betting With the Outside Bets

The outside bets in roulette refer to the ones that are outside of the main playing area of 38 numbers.

Red or Black: These bets simply entail betting that the ball will land on either a black number or a red number. These bets are placed, predictably, on the areas of the board with the words “red” and “black” written on them. This is a very popular form of roulette betting, as it is simple and has almost a 50% chance of winning. Some people may make the bet assuming that they do have a 50% chance of winning, but this is not so due to the 0 and 00 slots on the wheel. It is also frequently assumed that there is a better chance of winning if you bet on black, for example, when the last five spins were red. This is simply not the case. This bet is paid even money.

Odd or Even: This is also an even money bet - a bet that the number will be odd or that it will be even. The 0’s do not count as either, so there are 36 numbers, an equal amount of odd and even. To place this bet, you put the chips in the middle square marked even or the one marked odd, which is usually beside the black and red betting area.

Low or High: These bets allow you to predict whether the next number will be within the range of 1 to 18 (low) or 19 to 36 (high). This is also an even money bet, which is placed by putting your chips in the boxes with the low and high number ranges printed on them.

Columns: At one end of the set of 38 numbers on the table you will find boxes with “2 to 1” written in them. Each one of these boxes is part of a column of numbers at one end of the set of 38 numbers are boxes with the words '2 to 1' written in them. Each box is part of a column of numbers, and if you bet on one of these columns, you will be paid 2 to 1 if one of the numbers in that column comes up.

Dozens: This is similar to the column bet. You bet on either the first dozen numbers (1 to 12), the second dozen (13 to 24) or the third dozen (25 to 36). To place this bet find the rectangular areas with the words 1 st 12, 2 nd 12, and 3 rd 12. These are located between the first outside bets and the inside board spread. The bet pays 2 to 1.

Roulette Betting With the Inside Bets

The inside bets are specific numbers or combinations of numbers within the layout, or along the border of it. The total of all of these bets must be at least the table minimum.

Straight-up Bet: This is the most simple form of roulette betting. You simply choose any one of the 38 numbers and put your chips down on that number. This is paid at 35 to 1, but is not a very smart bet since the odds are very much against you.

Split Bet: This is a bet on two different numbers that are beside each other on the table layout. To place the bet, put your chips down on the line between the numbers. The split bet pays 17 to 1 if either one of the numbers comes up.

Street Bet: Similar to the split bet, the street bet entails betting on three different numbers at once. You do this by putting your chips on the outside row of numbers that you want to bet on. The bet pays 11 to 1 if any of your three numbers come up.

Corner Bet: This is another wager that involves combinations. In it you bet on four adjoining numbers, placing your chips at the point where the numbers meet. This is also known as a square bet. If any one of your four numbers come up, you are paid 8 to 1.

Five Number Bet: Since there is only one bet you can make that involves five numbers it is referred to as THE five number bet. To make the bet, you must place your chips at the meeting point of 0 and 1, on the corner that does not join with the two. You will win if 0, 00, 1, 2 or 3 come up, at which point you will be paid 6 to 1. Making this bet is the worst move you can make in roulette betting, since the payout is not worth the odds of winning (which are not good).
